What you are versus What you do

Ronnie Floyd, author of the book I'm currently reading, says this, "What you are is more important than what you do".

We become so engrossed in our lives that often we identify ourselves by what we do rather than what we are. We see ourselves as doctors, lawyers, carpenters, or preachers and forget what we truly are in Christ.

Ephesians 1:3-14 gives us some well-needed insight into what we are:

In Jesus Christ I am
1. chosen miraculously
2. accepted completely
3. forgiven freely
4. planned providentially
5. rich spiritually

In what ways do you identify yourself by what you do rather than what you are?

Wow...That may be the only way I think of myself is by what I do. Why is it surprising that I don't have to do everything right to be loved by God. Is it that Dad thing of "I'm not proud that you won the game, I'm proud that you gave it all you had"
It's easy to get caught up in "the works of man", and comforting to realize that Jesus doesn't need me to win...
Thanks for the reminder
