I have been amazed at the Grace of God at the timeof death. My Pappaw is only a few weeks from his death now, and things are easily overwhelming for us as the family. He lays in a hospital bed at home, sleeping.
His voice is near nothing now. The other day, his wife and 3 daughters were sitting around his bed as he slept. After weeks of being nearly unable to speak, he awoke and sang a song at the top of his lungs. It was a verse to the old, old country song, "The Great Speckled Bird". This is amazing to me because this song was popular in teh 30's and 40's. There are 8 verses to this song but the one that came to his mind as his brain fires off inconsistantly was this:
" She is spreading her wings for a journey She's going to leave by and by When the trumpet shall sound in the morning She'll rise and go up in the sky. "
God is ever present near the death of one of His saints. He is always speaking to their family. I praise GOd for His faithfulness and comfort.

In these final weeks with Pappaw do not hesitate to talk with him, sing to him, touch his hand, tell him you love him - he will hear you. You may not get a response but he will know you are there and he will feel your love.
I was with my Mother 24 hours a day for the last five weeks of her life. She had a "near death experience" and then regained consciousness and told me that she had heard my voice and felt my touch when she was unconscious.
These moments will be precious memories for you. Don't miss out on them. God bless you and your family during this time.
Thanks for keeping us updated, you are in our prayers as, as a family, you face this difficult time. http://bropaul.blogspot.com/2008/07/dads-tough-night.html
